Happy Summer Everyone

Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, can I say a huge thank you for your support across the entire year. We are lucky to have such a fantastic staff at Osbaldwick Primary Academy and to work in partnership with wonderful parents and children makes all of our jobs within school very rewarding.

There have been too many fantastic events this year to name them all but here is a snapshot of the year…..

Amazing Test Results

We are so proud of our Y6 pupils who smashed their SATS tests. We had 74% of pupils achieve a combined Reading, Writing and Maths result which puts us 3rd out of 23 schools in our Trust and way above the national average for schools. This compliments our EYFS, Y1 phonics, Y2 results, and Y4 times table scores which were all high and very pleasing. A well done to all our pupils for aiming high and to our staff for their dedication in making teaching and learning engaging and inspiring.

We Love Reading

Well done to our competition winners who won lots of reading books for school. You can see how pleased they are and rightly so. Thanks to Miss Gulc for entering the competition and inspiring the children. It was a lovely surprise when we were announced winners!

Another very successful Y6 Production

What a talented group our Year 6s are! They have been amazing ambassadors all year and the quality of acting and singing was in abundance when they performed Alice in Wonderland. The song choices were wonderful, the costumes and makeup amazing and the audience suitably impressed. Thanks to Mr Robinson  and Mrs Barber for your creativity in directing a super play.

Mrs Barber – The time has come and you will be missed!!

Mrs Barber has been a teaching assistant with us for over 10 years and is sadly leaving. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Mrs Barber who has been so devoted to our children supporting them both pastorally and helping our oldest pupils prepare for secondary school. She has been devoted so often going above and beyond. I know you will join me in wishing her well in the future.

Early Years Improvements

We are delighted with our improvements to our Early Years area on The Leyes site. The outdoor area has been given a splash of colour and has become a warm welcoming entrance to the Nursery and Reception areas.   The new shelter, mud kitchens and get set go blocks have proved very popular with our youngest pupils.

Thanks to parents for passing the word on that our Early Years setting is a great place to start school as we have the highest numbers on role since academisation. Thanks to all our staff on The Leyes – you really are amazing!

Look where have we visited this year …

School is such fun – especially when you get to go on trips….

Key Stage 1 visited The Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Key Stage 2 visited a medieval hall in our beautiful city… how fortunate are we to live in historic York. Trips to museums really help us with our learning and bring history to life.

Musical showcase

It was amazing to see Y1 and Y2 perform in their Music Showcase. Chime bells and boom whackers have been used this term and the concentration needed by some of our youngest children in order to perform as a whole class in time was very impressive. Well done to Mrs Marshall and all Key Stage 1.

Choir Performance with a national composer…

The choir performing and conducted by Kate Pearson – a national composer-  at Millthorpe School was one of the highlights of our musical year. Giving opportunities to pupils is something the school prides itself on.

Children continue to enjoy our outdoor space..

We are so lucky to have the vast amount of space outside and keeping active and healthy is vital for our young learners.  The pupils continue to enjoy our facilities and the PE lessons on our MUGA are very popular.

Our new play equipment at The Lane is proving very popular.

So much so we all wanted to try it out at once!

Children are looking forward to September..

Our transition arrangements for pupils moving to their new classes has been successful. Year 2 and 3s moving to Year 3 and 4 had a taster of their new history topic – The Stone Age.

Tree Planting to commemorate the year of King Charles III Coronation

Lastly we enjoyed a special tree planting ceremony to commemorate the year of the King’s Coronation. Mrs Dean, Chair of Governors was our special visitor, with the help of children and staff to plant our Amelanchier plant which will turn beautiful shades of red and orange in the autumn.

Great to get the whole team together and celebrate our amazing grounds and the end to another good year at Osbaldwick.

Our school is always a vibrant, fun place to work and we are very fortunate to have so many brilliant staff so a huge thanks to them all.

Last but not least have a fantastic summer holiday and we will see you in September.
