Newsletter 16.10.26

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach almost the end of our first half  term, I am delighted to write my very first newsletter to you as Headteacher. It has been a pleasure watching our pupils thrive over these past few weeks, settling into their routines with fantastic enthusiasm. Our teaching staff are thrilled with the warm, focused, and positive atmosphere in every classroom. It was lovely to connect with so many of you during our recent parents’ evenings to share these early successes, and the strong sense of partnership between home and school is already clear.

Academy Merger

We are pleased to share the news that the Department for Education has now formally approved the merger between Ebor Academy Trust and Nexus Multi Academy Trust. The new Trust will be called Nexus Ebor Schools Trust (NEST), and we are working towards a merger date of September 2027.

The merger brings together Ebor’s experience in mainstream primary education with Nexus’ expertise in specialist education and SEND, creating opportunities to share expertise, strengthen inclusive practice and provide even better support for children. The aim is to build on what is already strong in our schools while creating new opportunities for the future. We will keep families updated as the final arrangements progress.

There will be no immediate changes to day-to-day school life, and importantly, our school will retain its name, leadership team, uniform and existing governance arrangements.

Harvest Festival Assemblies

Looking ahead, the excitement is certainly building as our Early Years and Key Stage 1 children prepare for their Harvest Festival performances next week.

Reception and Nursery Harvest Festival – Thursday 22nd October 9:15 –  Leyes site

Y1 and Y2 Harvest Festival – Thursday 22nd October 2:45pm – Lane site

Reception Book Cafe

Thank you to parents who attended our Reception Book Cafe. The children loved sharing a book and showing off the Reception classroom to you all.

Starting school is such a milestone moment, and our Reception pupils have embraced it with smiles, curiosity, and boundless energy every single day. They have settled effortlessly into their new routines, making new friends and discovering the joy of hands-on learning across every corner of the classroom. It has been great to see their confidence bloom so quickly as they take these exciting first steps on their educational journey.

York Dance Space

Our Year 6s are taking part in an inspiring dance project with York Dance Space in collaboration with the York Theatre Royal. We have worked alongside professional choreographers Hannah and Drew for many years and they bring out the very best in our pupils. Our oldest pupils are exploring expressive movement and performance techniques while building confidence. This partnership is giving Year 6 a wonderful opportunity to express themselves creatively and work as a  team, culminating in a memorable experience on stage to a large audience. Good luck Year 6s. Below are just some of the performers.

School Council

We have also recently announced our brand-new School Council, proudly led by Miss Mitha! Demonstrating true British values in action, all our pupils have been learning about democracy and the importance of having a voice. Candidates from across the different year groups put tremendous effort into creating and delivering brilliant presentations to their peers, setting out their visions for how they would represent their classes. Every child who stood for election deserves huge praise for their bravery, enthusiasm, and public speaking skills. Following a democratic vote by their classmates, our newly elected representatives are now ready to make a fantastic contribution to school life—well done to everyone who took part!
