Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been a very busy and productive half term where the children have settled into routines, established friendships and achieved many things to be proud of.

Our three priorities on this year’s School’s Development Plan are:

Reading, Attendance and Curriculum

We promote a love of reading in every class across the school. Children of all ages tell us that they enjoy listening to the teachers reading a variety of books which inspire them. For learning to read, books are well matched to the pupil’s phonic ability. In Early Years and Key Stage One Little Wandle books are sent home to read and this is for listening to your child read. Library books are sent home for you to share with your child. They may not be able to read these independently. We are delighted with the response to the ‘Three Times a Reader’ rewards. Keep up the good work.

In Keys Stage Two free readers are chosen by the children.

We have a broad and balanced curriculum and it’s wonderful to celebrate children’s achievements in class and with parents. We loved sharing our Frida Kahlo portraits with you in Year 3 and 4 which have been produced as part of their ‘Globetrotting Around North America’ topic.

Our Y6 residential was a huge success. I witnessed first hand the courage, resilience and determination our Y6s showed in three days. Thank you to our amazing staff for going above and beyond and to parents for your support. No doubt this experience will serve them well for teamwork into the academic year.

Our Nursery and Reception pupils continue to delight us with their love of learning and curiosity. They really have made a fantastic start to life at school. Thank you to parents for attending the recent ‘Stay and Play’.

Consistent wow behaviour is rewarded on the last Friday of the half term with a hot chocolate Friday and treats. Well done to our winners!

KS1 Harvest Festival was a huge success with beautiful singing, reading and it was lovely to share with parents. Thank you to Mrs Marshall for her drive and dedication to the music in school. So many of our pupils are in choir, orchestra or play instruments. We continue to provide wider opportunity for all our pupils. Thank you for your generous donations which have gone to the York Food Bank.

Good luck to Mrs Mould who takes up her new role as Headteacher in North Yorkshire.  We wish her well.

Lastly we wish you a restful half term. Remember: Be kind, Be safe, Aim High
