Summer Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

With lots of trips and exciting learning in school, here is an update of all that is going on.

Summer Festival a huge success

Thank you to everyone who supported our Summer Festival. The weather was kind and everyone had a fantastic time. The school association took over £2000. A special thanks to Bryony Christmas and Sam Oldershaw (school association) and Nicky Bryan Smith for their organisation and Mr Potter for being a legend! Thank you to our choir who entertained us and our amazingly entrepreneurial Year 5 pupils who made lots of profit for school through their stalls. A brilliant example of aiming high!

Transition Update

It’s that time of year again when we start to look ahead to the next academic year and prepare for the children’s transition to their new classes. We understand this can be a time of mixed emotions for both you and your child, and we want to assure you that we are here to support everyone through this process.

Thoughtful Class Placements

Please know that we dedicate a significant amount of time and careful consideration to forming our new classes. Many factors are taken into account when making these important decisions, including friendships, learning styles, academic needs, and social dynamics. Our goal is always to create balanced and supportive learning environments where every child can thrive.

Personalised Transitions for children with an EHCP

For parents of children with an Education, Health and Care Plan, Mrs Ferguson  will be in touch with you directly to discuss personalised transition arrangements that may be beneficial for your

child. We are committed to ensuring a smooth  move for every child.

Transition Day Preparations

All parents will discover which class their child/children will be moving into on Wednesday 2nd July at 4pm via parent hub. Teaching staff will talk to the children about transition on Thursday 3rd July.

Transition Day

Children will meet their new class teacher on Friday 4th July and will take part in fun activities meeting their new classmates and teacher.  We’ve found this approach to be incredibly successful over the years in helping children feel ready and excited for their new adventure.

Reception Pupils

We will welcome Reception pupils and parents onto The Lane site ready for an 8.45am start. We have already had lots of transition activities to The Lane site so pupils are prepared.

We are looking forward to a positive and successful transition for all our children.

Reception Trip to Piglets

Our Reception pupils had an amazing time at Piglets Farm. It was lovely to celebrate their learning on farms with a visit.

Trip to Ampleforth College

Some of our pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 had a great time at Ampleforth College. The theme was outdoor learning and sixth formers planned activities including:

spotting the hidden items, making a tower competition, cloud busting, seed planting, dragon flies, clay creatures, natural art and bird feeders.  All our children came back inspired from the day! We also had great feedback from the sixth formers regarding the engagement and how polite our pupils were.

Year 1 and 2 Trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Library book donations

Miss Gulc  reached out to some local companies to see if any were willing to donate books or money for books for our ongoing library refresh. A big thank you to local company ‘DJ Assembly’ who very kindly donated £100 towards this! The children are very happy to see more Dog Man books as they are incredibly popular at the moment! If anyone knows of any other local businesses that may help further, please let Miss Gulc know! We’d love to update our non-fiction texts next!

Community Project with St Thomas’ Church

The year 5s visited St Thomas’ Church in Osbaldwick. They had the exciting opportunity to learn about the lives of some of our Osbaldwick community members and share stories with them. They also had the chance to take in some of their favourite toys and compare it to some of their favourite items from their childhood. This project continues as the school has the exciting opportunity to create a piece for a giant tapestry which will hang in St Thomas’ Church.

We will send another newsletter out in the last week celebrating sports day, Y6 leavers assembly and plenty more. Have a good weekend.

Mr Brown
