Dear Parents/Carers,
Children’s Mental Health Week
Last week we helped Osbaldwick celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme this year was “Know Yourself, Grow Yourself”. Our workshops encouraged children to think about their strengths, as well as things they find tricky. We celebrated individual difference and how acknowledging areas of improvement can help young people grow and flourish.
Wellbeing Ambassadors
Our fabulous Wellbeing Ambassadors then continued to raise awareness with the whole school during assembly. Each and every ambassador spoke loud and clear and will continue
to deliver this message amongst their fellow pupils.
Key Stage 1 Railway Museum Visit
Our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils had a great time at The Railway Museum linked to their topic ‘What Makes Our City of York Special?’. The children have been learning about George Stephenson and his inventions and how the introduction of trains changed people’s lives. Members of public were very complimentary about our children’s behaviour and attitudes. Well done team.
Message from our Chair of Governors
Dear Parents,
As part of our continuing commitment to keep you informed about what the Osbaldwick Governing Board, we wanted to let you know this half term’s focus. We are meeting with the Raising Achievement Team to look through lots of pupil books to understand how teachers have improved the curriculum and encouraged your children’s reading habits.
As always we welcome any comments you would like the board to be aware of. You can share those via the apparent governors or send to the chair on bdean@ebor.academy
EAL Cafe well attended
Thank you to parents of some of our EAL parents who joined in with some craft activities with their children. It was lovely for the children to share their learning and find some time for staff to chat to parents.
Dodgeball Winners
Congratulations to our dodgeball competitors from Y3/4. All our teams did brilliantly against Headlands and Haxby Road with Osbaldwick A Team winning overall in a very closely run event. Go team OPA!
Visitors Bring Motivation
Our children took part in some challenges which required teamwork by visitors from the police and a special motivational speaker who was an Olympic swimmer – James Kirkton. The children succeeded through working together, aiming high and being kind – not a single negative comment in the midst of some very competitive children trying to beat their scores. Our visitors again were very complimentary.
Safer Internet Day
Miss Kay is our computing lead and is part of our safeguarding team ensuring pupils are educated about online safety. The children were very engaged with an assembly she put together of exactly how we can be safe when online. Thanks Miss Kay!
E-safety Tip for February
Attendance Report Card
Following feedback from parents asking for more regular information on attendance we have sent out a short report card to your email address. This has gone to every family in school and this gives you an indicator of how they are doing.
Number Train in Nursery
Our children in Nursery have loved their sessions in Number Train on Fridays learning about numbers and developing language. We look forward to welcoming parents into our session on Friday at 10.30am at The Leyes to see what it’s all about.
Special Visitor
We were surprised and delighted to catch up with one of our past pupils from Korea who returned to The UK with his family nine years after attending OPA. How time flies! Moo Yun felt he had to return to Osbaldwick as he has such fond memories of school and the friends he grew up with. It was lovely to reminisce about his time at our school. It’s always lovely to track all our pupils’ progress including those in different countries.

Many thanks to drivers for not parking or dropping off on the yellow zig zags. This is much improved since daily patrol however this is still happening. The zig zags are there for your children’s safety. Let’s work together to keep our children safe.
Please ensure your child arrives on time. Please be aware that the gates will be locked promptly at 8.50am.
Please remind your child to refrain from congregating in the wooded area in front of school in order to keep them safe. Thank you.
