Headteacher’s Autumn Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

A Warm Welcome to a New School Year!

It’s with pleasure that I extend a warm welcome to all our families, both those returning and those joining us for the very first time. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful and restful summer break. The school is already buzzing with the energy of a new academic year, and it’s a delight to see our pupils’ smiling faces back in the classrooms, eager to learn and reconnect with their friends and teachers.

The start of the autumn term is a special time. It’s a period of new beginnings, fresh starts, and exciting challenges. Our teachers have been working tirelessly to prepare engaging and stimulating lessons that will help every child thrive. This term, we’ll be diving into a range of exciting topics, from The Stone Age to Superheroes. We’re also placing a special emphasis on our school’s values: Be Kind – Be Safe – Aim High. We believe these values are fundamental to our pupils becoming good citizens.

Parent Governor Election

We are taking nominations for a Parent Governor Role. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that takes a strategic view of the school.  Closing date is 10am on 25th September.

Attendance

School Council – welcome to our new representatives!

Well done to our new school council members who were voted on democratically by their classmates. We have two pupils from every class on The Lane site. They are all very excited for the opportunity to make a positive difference in our school. What a great team!

Cycling on Site

Since the start of the new term, we have noticed a significant increase in the number of adults and children cycling on the footpaths leading up to the school. (Often with children on crossbars.)
We have received a number of complaints regarding this issue and in the interests of Health & Safety would request that cyclists please dismount at the school gates. Thank you.

Community Pride Awards

Ada in Year 5 was nominated for Young Person of The Year at The recent Community Pride Awards.  This follows a year of inspirational fundraising and initiatives such as proving a gallery space for young people to exhibit their art work at Spark York. Whilst Ada didn’t win she’s a winner in our eyes.  We can’t wait to see what Ada has in store for this year.

Language Day – Friday 26th September

Across the Ebor Academy, we are celebrating European Language Day in school on Friday 26th September. The children will enjoy a range of activities, be immersed in different languages and learn about other countries and cultures throughout the day.

EYFS and Key Stage 1 pupils will be looking more closely at French while Key Stage 2 (Years 3 – 6) will be exploring Spanish.

As part of this, there is the option for children to come to school on the day dressed up in some traditional clothing or in the colours of the flag. Red/white/blue for EYFS and KS1. Red/yellow for KS2. Please note – this is optional and children can come in their own choice of clothing on that day.

We always love to learn more about our children and families. If you have any experiences you’d like to share in school of languages spoken in your home or traditions special to your culture, please do let your class teacher know.

A plea from teachers

Can we kindly ask for no toys or teddies in school.  We’ve got lots of labubu teddies coming in at the moment causing a distraction. Thank you.

Respect School staff

Please can I ask if you are a witness to any derogatory language or intimidation to school staff you report this directly to myself. No one comes to work to be abused. When we didn’t have a crossing patrol attendant I had lots of emails asking to make this priority for all our children’s safety. Sadly unless we are kind to one another we will lose staff. Please be kind!

Parents’ evening for New Starters

We are holding two open evenings to showcase our wonderful school!  Please pass on the word to friends and neighbours who have children who will be due to start Reception in  2026 or children who have turned/or are turning three and want a nursery place.  Thank you.

Half Term Fun

Key Dates

Please find the key dates for this term.  We shall communicate more dates as they are confirmed.

Have a lovely weekend

Mr Brown
