Easter Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

As the spring term draws to a close we wish you all a lovely Easter break. It has been a pleasure seeing so many of you at our parent meetings this week. We very much appreciate working in partnership with you. This term has been productive and enjoyable with lots of highlights.

Red Nose Day

Many thanks for all who donated to Red Nose Day, we raised an amazing £230.

YorkAOS Art Gallery at Spark York

In the February half term holiday Spark York hosted an art gallery displaying children’s art work from across the city set up by our amazing pupils! The school is very proud of Ada and Mabel for making this amazing event happen and for raising a significant money for charity by selling the art work. Our own art club sold their masterpieces and were delighted!

Reception Craft Cafe

Parents and Carers had a great morning with their children at our Early Years Craft Cafe. All the children made pop up Easter cards and the turn out from parents was amazing. Thank you so much for your support.

Nerf Competition Year 3/4

Our Year 3/4 Nerf Gun school representatives won the tournament on Thursday 27th March at Fulford Primary School – Well done Team OPA!

Class Trips

There have been lots of trips out of school to some exciting places this term. Year 5 and 6 have visited The Merchant Adventurer’s Hall and Monk Park Farm.

More Trips

Year 1 and 2 visited Askham Bryan Wildlife Park which was a great success. Children got to attend a habitat workshop. They learned about different habitats and considered what adaptions animals may need to survive.

Year 3 and 4 are looking forward to their trip on the first week back.

Nursery sessions for pupils and parents

Forest Schools Launch

We had the grand opening of our Forest Schools area. Cutting the ribbon were Julian Pattison and Fran Eggington (a representative from Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust) who have financially supported us. Thanks to Mr Davison for the beautiful forest schools signs that he made, Brunswick Nursery staff for their hard work in keeping this area maintained and parents and governors who attended. The children loved exploring and taking part in forest schools activities.

Music Showcase

Well done to our talented instrumentalists and choir for performing in the Music Showcase this week.

‘I just wanted to say a big thank you for inviting me to the Osbaldwick Primary School musical showcase. It was such a joy to be there and see all the amazing performances!

The children did an incredible job – they sounded fantastic and it was clear how much effort they’d put into their music. You must be so proud of them! It was also lovely to see the parents beaming with pride – their support really added to the special atmosphere of the show.

It’s been great for us at York Music Hub to be able to support the bursary funding, and seeing the students shine like that makes it all the more worthwhile.

Please pass on my congratulations to staff and students involved. They should all be really proud!’

Reading

Year 1s and Year 2s got to meet the author Catherine Jacob who came into school and read us her books: ‘Betsy Buglove Saves the Bees’ and ‘Betsy Buglove and the Brave Butterfly’. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to her and hearing about the inspiration behind the stories. This fitted in brilliantly with our topic on minibeasts.

Recycling in School

Thank you to the school council and Mr Potter for starting our recycling campaign.

Join the School Association

We are really keen for more parents to join us particularly as we have our Summer Community Fayre on the horizon – Saturday 21st June.

York Open Studios

Look out for yellow balloons around York in the first two weekends of April (5-6th,12-13th). York Open Studios is an annual community arts event providing an opportunity for the public to visit artists’ studios and workshops within a ten-mile radius of the city centre, showcasing some of the best artists and makers in the city. There are 6 artists in Osbaldwick, Derwenthorpe and Murton, including Mr Dumont, parent of a year 6 who helped with Art Club last spring, and many others in Tang Hall and Heworth. In all, there are 160 artists taking part across York and its outskirts. Directories listing the artists involved and a pull out map can be found in reception and within local businesses with full details available at yorkopenstudios.co.uk

Holiday Clubs

We wish you a happy holiday. Enjoy the sunshine. We are back at school on Tuesday 22nd April.
