INTENT

Content

Through our curriculum we discover different countries and cultures which help to prepare children for their life in a global community. In Early Years and Key Stage 1, French is introduced through songs and games to foster enjoyment in learning the language. 

In Key Stage 2, French is taught in key areas: speaking and pronunciation, listening, reading and writing and grammar.

Creativity

Children are given opportunities to work collaboratively for example by learning playground games in French and hosting a French cafe. 

Cohesion

The scheme of work used is a spiral curriculum, revisiting and building on new vocabulary, knowledge and skills. 

Community

As a school we are very diverse with children from different countries with different languages.  Our EAL offer ‘prepares children with a safe place to land’ through such things as welcoming displays in home languages, coffee mornings for our parents and peer working to foster academic success. We have an annual ‘languages day’. 

Compassion

We pride ourselves on offering a supportive environment to children for whom English is a second language or with no English at all.  We use technology and peer support as well as our pastoral team to enable them to communicate and immerse themselves in our language.
