Computing

INTENT

Creativity

In computing, children study control systems where they use their creativity to write and debug algorithms for example by using ‘Scratch’.

Content

The curriculum is broken down into three main parts: control systems (where children learn to write and debug algorithms), information technology (where the children are assessed on their ability to use technology to research and present information), and digital literacy (which covers everything from e-safety to reliability of sources).

Cohesion

When developing their computing knowledge, children are encouraged to develop their vital skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity to accomplish their goals. The knowledge and skills is built up from EYFS throughout school and is carefully sequenced to revisit prior learning and retain knowledge.

Community

Children are taught that they belong to online communities and appropriate ways to communicate safely when online.  They all have a chrome book which they use across the curriculum and to share their learning with parents through ‘Seesaw’

Compassion

Children learn about online bullying and how to use computing in respectful ways and how to deal with any issues.
