A big welcome to Osbaldwick Primary School.
Ours is a happy, forward thinking school community comprising over 330 children aged 3-11.
We are based on two sites a few minutes apart, which is a legacy from the days when there were two primary schools in this area. Derwent School closed in July 2013 and the enlarged Osbaldwick Primary School opened in September 2013.
Our pre-school nursery, which follows the Foundation Stage curriculum, offers morning and afternoon sessions for children from the age of three.
Our school and its extensive grounds provides a broad and balanced curriculum, with rich learning during school hours and with our diverse extra-curricular clubs and activities.
We have an allotment area, an outdoor classroom with planting areas and an environmental science wildlife area, created in partnership with the University of York. Three large enclosed private playing fields are situated behind the buildings on both sites and our school benefits from an enclosed Multi-Use Games Area.
Music is a particular strength and concerts are arranged for parents at all key stages throughout the school year. Our pupils have performed at a range of venues, including York Minster.
The children’s voice is clearly heard with an active school council who have a direct say in various aspects of school life.
We are a school at the heart of its community and we are pleased to be able to provide a venue for community-based activities, including hosting York Community Church.
After a thorough public consultation, governors have voted for the school to convert to academy status and join York-based Ebor Academy Trust. This is an organisation that shares our values and our commitment to constantly improving outcomes for children and looking after its staff. We expect to join Ebor in 2018.
Alongside that development, we are working with Ebor and “Early Excellence”, a nationally recognised resource and training provider specialising in early years education. Between us we plan to establish a centre of excellence for the training of teachers in early years.
If you’re a parent interested in perhaps sending your child to our school, please make an appointment through the school office. We’d be delighted to give you a tour of the school in action, so you can see for yourself.
